Maintain Bulk SMS's {GSMS-1}


This option will provide the user with the following options allowing the user to navigate to the correct block to create the SMS file of his/her choice:


1.    Create or modify a SMS file based on Comment codes
2.    Create or modify a SMS file based on Status codes
3.    Create or modify a SMS file based on Student applications
4.    Create or modify a SMS file based on Student registrations
5.    Create or modify a SMS file based on Other criteria
6.    View log of SMSes sent

Block 1:  Comment Codes.

This block will allow the user to create a SMS file based on Comment Codes. The following information is required for the programme to create the file:

When a Comment Code is selected, the form must insert the Comment Code Description from SSTUDC-2 (Description) into the first message line.

Sequence Number N9 The sequence number of this SMS.
Sent A1 Displays whether the SMS had been sent (Y)es or (N)o.
Comment A4 Enter a comment code here.
Year YYYY Enter the year of the SMS.
Campus A3 Enter a campus code.
Faculty A4 Enter a faculty code.
Block Code A2 Enter a block code.
Message x 3 A250 Message lines vary from: First Message Line, Second Message Line and so forth.
Cell Number 1, 2 and 3 N10 Enter a valid cell number, provision is made for 3 cell phone numbers.

Block 2:
 Status Codes.

This block will allow the user to create a SMS file based on status codes. The following information is required for the programme to create the file:

The form must select all students according to the above criteria, but who have the input Status Code on their record for the input year with a NULL end date.

At least one year must be specified - either the application year or the registration year. For a student to be picked up, he must either have applied during the application year or have registered for the registration year.  Only one of either the application or registration year may be entered.

Block 3:  Student Applications.

This block will allow the user to create a SMS file based on applications. The following information is required for the programme to create the file:

Block 4:
 Student Registrations.

This block will allow the user to create a SMS file based on registrations. The following information is required for the programme to create the file:

Qual BC A2 Enter the block code for the qualification.
Qualification Code A6 Enter the qualification code
Qual. Off. Type A2 Enter the offering type for this qualification.
Study Periods. A1 Enter the code for the period of study.

Block 5:
 Other Criteria.

This block will allow the user to create a SMS file based on an ASCII file of cell phone numbers.  This file must be in a place where the application server can get hold of it.  The following information is required for the programme to create the file:

ASCII File Name and Path A60 Enter the name and the path of the ASCII file as it resides on the application server.

Block 6:  Log.

This block is based on the recipient table and will show a list of student numbers, cell phone numbers and whether an SMS has been sent or not. This will allow the user to see whether a particular student has been sent an SMS for a particular sequence number, if desired. The user will be able to query on a cell phone number, student number or sequence number.
