Any number of location codes may be defined here. Each Branch is allocated a default location code (refer {LPMM-2}), but any item can be linked to any valid location code when an item record is created (see {LCAO-3}).
Field | Type & Length |
Description |
---|---|---|
Code | A3 | The code of the location can be selected in such a way that it will be readily intelligible to the user. In the Circulation Sub-system, it is this code, rather than the name, which used when an item is identified. |
Name | A30 | The name of the location is entered here. |
Parameter | A1 | Parameters set to “Y” may not be updated by the user. This indicates which locations cannot be changed and where the system defaults must be used. |
Sequence Most Available Item | N2 | The parameter set in this field, is used for purposes of display of the most accessible item in Information Retrieval. In this field the user must set up the sequence in which items must be selected, according to location, to allow for display as the most accessible items. Items with a null value in this field, will never display as the most accessible items in Information Retrieval. The most accessible item is an indication to the user of items that can be taken out. Items in locations that cannot be taken out of the library, e.g.: reference material, must not display, so as not to give an incorrect impression to the user. The sequence set up in this field is also used when a hold is placed on an item. When a title hold is placed, the items will be looked at in the sequence as set up in this option. An item with a location that does not have a sequence set here may not be placed on hold. This will enable the user to ensure that items at locations, that may not be taken out, a hold is put on items, which can be taken out of the library, will not be put on hold accidentally. |
