Space-use Categories {SPCS-5}

A standard list of Space-Use Categories is provided with the system. Should the user want to add others, it can be done here.

It is possible to create and maintain additional numbers between the existing ones to further refine the categories, for example the sub-categories

1310	Standard Office
1311	Senior Office
1312	Executive Office
1313	Open Plan Office
1314	Secretarial Office

may be used as a substitute for the single STATS category

Office

For the purposes of STATS reporting, the system will correctly add all the categories 1310 to 1314 above, under 1310. For internal purposes, however, useful reports and enquiries may be extracted on these categories individually.

A similar refining of categories may be useful in the case of residence rooms and classrooms.

ITS has added codes to the standard list, for example:

2110	Building Service Area
2120	Circulation Area
2130	Mechanical Area
2150	Inactive Area
2160	Alteration or Conversion Area
2170	Unfinished Area

Fields in the option:

Block 1: Space-use Category Codes/Names

Field	Type & Length	Description
Code	N4	The code of the space category.
Name	A40	The description of the space category.
Use for Lectures	A1	The user can indicate with a (Y)es or (N)o if rooms linked to this category can be used for lecturing purposes.
Use for Exams	A1	The user can indicate with a (Y)es or (N)o if rooms linked to this category can be used for examination purposes.
