“See” references link a non-standardised term to the appropriate standardised one.
A general query will display all
recorded
“See” references on the system. A specific query
will display all the records pertaining to the input criteria as well as the
authority tag and subfield to which the authority term has been linked.
The system will automatically refer to the “See”
references when a subject search is carried out, both under the
Public Query option and under the Library Staff Query option.
In these cases the search will logically be handled as an
“OR” search; firstly with the term that was entered
as part of the query, and secondly with the replacement term as
specified under this option. (This implies that, if a number
of words were entered in a query, a number of “OR”
searches could result).
The person who executed the query will not be informed that a
non-standardised form was used; the standardised form will merely be
printed in brackets as part of the heading of the result of the search.
“See”
references are maintained under option {LCAO-4}
and can be queried using this option.
