Blocking Maintenance  {LCIM-2}


Blockings against a user can either be entered by the system or a blocking can be entered manually via this two-block option.

Blockings remain in place in the system until they are removed by library staff, except for the “SYS2” blocking which will be removed automatically when a person returns the last of the outstanding items on his name.

Fields in the option:

Block 1:  User Blocked

To enter or delete a blocking, the user is firstly identified in Block 1:

User Type A1  A “P”, “S” or “O” is entered here.
User Number  N9 The number of the user is entered here.
The following fields will be displayed:
  • User Title, Initials and Surname 
  • Expiry date  -  If a staff member has resigned, the resignation date is displayed here.  (A blocking code, “Sys3”, can be entered under this option which will display on the “Issue Screen” under option {LCIO-1} when the User Number is entered.  A message will display the fact that this user has resigned and that the blocking may only be overwritten by a staff member with such permission.)
  • In the case of students the end of the last year of registration is displayed.
  • In the case of other users, the end date (if any) of their use of the library is displayed.
  • Fines  -  The total amount of outstanding fines.
  • Items Issued  -  The number of items currently issued to the user.
  • Blocking Messages  -  The number of blockings that exist against this user.
  • Items on Hold  -  The number of “Hold” records that exist in respect of this user.

Block 2:  Maintain Blockings

In respect of each blocking, the following fields will be displayed:

Blocking Message Code A6 The code of the Blocking is entered here, and can be changed.  The Blocking message will also be displayed.
Branch Code When a record is created, the Branch code will default to the branch of the staff member using the system.
Item Number The Item Number can be entered here if the blocking has something to do with a specific item.  The title will be displayed.
When a blocking is to be removed, it is done by using the <DELETE RECORD> command and <COMMIT>ting.
