There are certain places in the
system where consecutive numbers are automatically generated.
The present situation in respect of these numbers can be queried under
this option.

Number | N10 | Normally there would be no need to update numbers under
this option,
but if the library prefers that the first four characters of say the
item record number should correspond to the year in which the record
was created, the item number can be updated to say 20090000 on the
first day of 2009. The next item number allocated will then be
20090001. The “Periodical” numbers are allocated under the Receive Periodicals option {LPEO-1} when new copies are received. The “Item” numbers are allocated under the normal cataloguing option {LCAO-3} and {LCIO-10}, when item records are created for non-periodical media types. This allows for two sets of bar-code numbers to be printed, and to be used in the above sections. The “Inter-Lending” numbers are allocated when an item has been “imported” on Interlending under {LILO-2} and a record has been created for issuing purposes. Care should be taken not to enter a smaller number than the present one, as this could result in Oracle errors due to duplicate numbers. |
