Create Bibliographic Record {LACO-1}
This option allows for the
creation of the bibliographic record, which is used for ordering of the
item. The bibliographic record can be created in this option
and the order then placed in {FPMO2-1}.
Alternatively the order can be placed in {FPMO-1} and the bibliographic
record can be created as part of this process.
This option is discussed in full, but take note of the following issues
regarding the creation of bibliographic records for the purposes of
ordering items:
- This option allows for the
input of the abbreviated bibliographic records that would normally be
used for ordering purposes. The option functions exactly like
the
“Prompted Cataloguing” option {LCAO-1}, but only the
subfields, which
were indicated as “Use at Order” under option {LCAC-4}, will be
prompted for.
- Normally only the basic subfields which are required on a
printed order would be entered here.
- Since these records are often created when only very
limited
information is available, and because this is sometimes done by persons
who are not familiar with authority control aspects, the prompts used
under this option can be selected so that it would not be necessary to
use any sub-field under authority control. In this
case, subject
headings would normally only be added when the item is at hand; use
of responsibility, and authority can be avoided by using the statement of
responsiblity field for that purpose. All records will be
created with
type “LIMBO”.
- In the case of periodicals it is
useful to enter the “mnemonic” at this
stage. The mnemonic is a short
name to be used when retrieving the record for the periodical.
The
mnemonic can be entered in the second field in this option, named
“Mnemonic”.
For further details regarding this option, see Create Bibliographic
Record {LPEO-2} or
Prompted Cataloguing {LCAO-1}.
