PATHWAY STRUCTURES {SACADP-27}

This option is used to define 'Pathway' structures and 'Pathway Subject' types and their criteria with regard to the number of subjects and minimum and maximum credits.  This criteria will then be linked to existing qualifications and subjects and will guide the student in subject selection during registration.

The following business rules must be defined before an attempt is made to create a pathway:

A Pathway in Tab 1 and Pathway Subject Type in Tab 2, may not be deleted if it is referenced in a Pathway Subject Requirement on Tab 3.

Tab 1:  Pathways

Pathways describe the structure within which credits can be accumulated during a Study Period.

Field Type
&
Length
Description
Year YYYY  The 'Academic Year' for which this pathway is valid
Pathway A4 This code identifies the particular 'Pathway'.  The codes are not used in STATS reports and may be selected purely to satisfy internal needs.
Description A30 This is the description of the pathway code and this description will be displayed in the system whenever the pathway code is entered.
Sequence N3 This is the 'Sequence' in which the pathway code will be displayed in the registration programs ie. {SREGAR-11}, and applicable web registration pages.
Active A1 This indicator may take the values (Y)es or (N)o.  The pathway will only be displayed on Tab 3  when the value of the pathway is (Y)es. It is important that a record remains on the structure if it should become inactive.

Example:

Tab 2:  Pathway Subject Type

This is used to create 'Pathway Subject Types' and the number of credits required during the registration process.

Field Type

Description
Year YYYY The 'Academic Year' for which this pathway subject type is valid
Pathway Subject Type A4 This code identifies the particular 'Pathway Subject Type'.  The codes are not used in STATS reports and may be selected purely to satisfy internal needs.  This code is linked to the Subject information on {SACADP-14} and will be used to identify the type of subject within a pathway.
Description A30 This is the 'Description' of the pathway subject type code and this description will be displayed in the system whenever the pathway subject type code is entered.
Min Credit N6.3 This is the minimum credits that all the subjects can add up to during the registration process.  The 'internal credit' of the subject as defined on {SACADP-14} will be used as the credit value for the pathway subject type.
Max Credit N6.3 This is the maximum credits that all the subjects can add up to during the registration process.  The Internal Credit of the subject as defined on {SACADP-14} will be used as the credit value for the pathway subject type.
Active A1 This indicator may take the values (Y)es or (N)o.  The pathway subject type will only be displayed on Tab 3 when the value of the pathway subject type is (Y)es. It is important that a record remains on the structure if it should become inactive.

Example:

Tab 3:  Pathway Subject Requirements

Pathway Subject Requirements provides a flexible structure within which subject types can be structured to fit within a pathway.  This is done by linking a pathway to the allowed combination of pathway subjec types and indicating the number of subjects allowed within this combination.

Field Type
