Maintain Periods of Study {SCODE-30}

“Period of Study” is a term used in the ITS system to indicate the consecutive years or semesters of study that are required to obtain a qualification.

The codes that are created under this option are used in the Academic Structure:

Subjects are linked to the appropriate “Period of Study”, option {SACADO-17}, TAB - Curricula;
Valid combinations of Qualification / Offering Type / Period of Study are defined, option {SACADO-1}, TAB - Qualification Study Period / Quotas.

Periods of Study can be printed from {SCODR2-23}.

During Academic Registration, (option {SREGAR-11}, TAB - Qualification Information) the Period of Study is entered and it will be validated both against the codes under this option and the records under option {SACADO-1}, TAB - Qualification Study Period / Quotas.

Fields in this option:

Field	Type & Length	Description
Period	A1	The Period of Study Code.
Prev. Period	A1	Previous Period. The period of study that precedes this period of study must be entered here. If the Period of Study is 2, then the previous period would typically be 1.
Description	A30	The Description of this period, e.g. “First Year” or “Phase A”.
Alternate Description	A30	Alternate Description. For use in the letters sub-system to students with an alternate language of preference.

For a qualification offered over 3 Years but where subjects must be registered every six months (semesters) and the student may start his / her first period of study in the second semester:

E	Phase Five	Fifth semester of study
F	Phase Six	Sixth semester of study
