Compute Half And Full Period Marks {SSTUD4-1}

In this option the user indicates whether (H)alf or (F)ull Period marks are to be calculated.

The program uses the Mark Type marks to calculate the Half or Full Period mark. The criteria for calculation is defined in {SSTUD3-7b1}. It is thus important that

Assessment marks are entered {SSTUD1-2} , assessment results calculated {SSTUD4-14} and Mark Type marks {SSTUD4-11} and results calculated {SSTUD4-13}.
If assessments are not used, then the Mark Type marks and results must be entered using {SSTUD1-7}

Only Mark Types that are marked as "Y - Used in calculation of Full Period Marks" in the 'Mark Type Use' field in {SCODE-10}, will be used in the calculation of the marks.

Function “SREC” under option {SMNT-5} can control access to this option. This makes it possible to limit access to the updating of marks in respect of one person to one Faculty / Department and Campus only. Campus restriction is not mandatory.

The SOD = 'MC', 'SR' (Calculation programs to process cancelled marks and results), determines if cancelled subjects' exam marks and final marks and results will be computed. If the 'Alpha/Date Field' = 'Y' for SOD = 'MC', 'SR', the cancelled subject(s) will be included. If the 'Alpha/Date Field' = 'N', the cancelled subject(s) will be ignored.

The calculation of Year Mark is controlled by System Cycle 'L' {SSTUDY-1 / SMNT-2}, the calculation of the Half Year Mark is not controlled by any System Cycle.

Only students with errors will be printed. Errors here refer to items such as "No Mark Type Mark Entered for Student but Mark Type Weight Specified".

Note: The exam year is used to select student records but for each student the academic year (i.e. registration year) is used to determine the calculation criteria to use in the calculation.

	The program will use each individual student’s registration year as the academic year to get the criteria for calculation The calculation of Half Period marks is controlled by the System Cycle “M - Enter Assessment marks” under option {SSTUDY-1b1}. The calendar year and academic block to be updated must therefore be active under that option. The calculation of Full Period Marks is controlled by System Cycle “L - Enter Full Period Marks” under option {SSTUDY-1b1}. If the Full Period marks are calculated, the mark will be copied into the decimal (un-rounded) mark field and can be viewed in option {SSTUDM-1/2}. The user has the choice to use the rounded or un-rounded values when the final mark calculation is done. This choice is dependent on the setting of Validation "CD - Calculate Marks With Decimals". If ‘Y’ the decimals will be used – in ‘N’, the rounded values will be used. The calculation may be repeated in respect of a mark and a subject, in which case the previously calculated or manually entered values will be overwritten. The results of the calculation may be seen either by doing a query on the “Change Marks and Results” option {SSTUDM-1}, viewing the students academic record in {SSTUDY-21}, or by printing a class list for the subject, options {SSTURL-1} or {SSTURL-2}. Access to data under this option is controlled by the facilities under {SMNT-5} and will limit users to subjects linked to their “own” faculties/departments and campus. Campus restrictions are optional with restriction 'SREC'. The calculation can be done per Offering Type or ALL. If all is selected the system cycle ‘E’ for all Offering Types must be open {SSTUDY-1b1}, else the program will print a message and abort execution. If a student does not have any marks on the Mark Type level, no Half Period or Full Period mark will be calculated for such a student. If a weight is defined for a MT but the student does not have a mark, the student’s information is printed with the message ‘No Mark Type Mark Entered for Student NNNNNNNNN Group Type X Group XX but Mark Type Weight Specified’ If the Subject is marked as Objective evaluation and the Mart Type and Assessments is marked as Competence the program will give the error 'No criteria for Subject XXXXXXX, OT XX, and Classgroup X, Prac group X, Tutorial Group X, Ignored for Calculation'
