Subject / Module Groups and Consolidation {SACADP-6}


The program is used to setup a structure of references between a 'main subject' and 'modules' and is then referred to as a 'subject group' or 'subject modules'.   These 'subject groups' can be re-used across qualifications where as the current curriculum modules as

on {SACADP-10} is specific to a qualification / offering type / period of study combination.  Consolidation of current specific subject groups on {SACADP-10} to a generic group within this option is possible via block 2 of this option.  


Prerequisites to use this option includes the following:



Modules can be included in multiple subject groupings, the context within which it is used may differ, e.g. a module may be compulsory in one grouping, and optional in another.

Block 1 is a control block that makes it easy to link modules to a 'Main' Subject. Records can only be queried in this block and new records cannot be created. Any data can be queried in Block 2, provided that block 1 is cleared of any data.

This is where the modules are linked to the Main subject as queried on Block 1.

Year YYYY The academic 'year' as queried in the search area above or entered on its own if the search area was left blank.
Subject A7 The 'subject' as queried in the search area above or entered on its own if the search area was left blank.
  • Only Subjects from {SACADP-14where the subject type is equal to Mother Subject Type on {SSTUD3-1} will be available
Module A7 The module that need to be linked to the subject already entered.
  • Only Subjects from {SACADP-14} where the subject type is equal to Module Subject Type on {SSTUD3-1} will be available 
Compulsory A1 When a module is 'Compulsory' within a subject the student has to register for the module when registering for the Subject. (Unless the student is repeating some modules of the subject in a subsequent academic year and already passed this module). Valid values are 'Y' or 'N'.
Required A1 A required module is a module which must be passed without compensation (i.e. a mark of 40% achieved) in order to progress in that subject. Valid values are 'Y' or 'N'.
Group A2 The group field is optional and does not need to be entered.  The function of the group is to group module options together, if a 'Group' is entered. Option must also be entered.  
Option A2 The 'Option' field is required only when the group field is entered.  If an 'Option' is entered, the corresponding group field is also required.  
Modules with the same 'Option' number within the same group have to be selected together ('AND' rule applies).
Modules with different 'Option' within the same group may not be selected together ('OR' rule applies).  
The example below indicates that Module 1 to 3 will be displayed in the same group, but the student can either take Module 1 OR take Module 2 AND Module 3.

Module 1 - Group A with Option A.
Module 2 - Group A with Option B.
Module 3 - Group A with Option B.
Sequence A1 This is the 'Sequence' in which the subjects / modules will be displayed during the registration process on the web and in the back-office programs.
Pathway Subject Type A4 The 'Pathway Subject Type' of the subject will be displayed here.  This field is not updatable and will be displayed from {SACADP-14}.
Sync Indicator A4 If the 'Sync indicator' is specified, it indicates that there are records that need to be updated on the curriculum {SACADP-15} to align the subject group with the curriculum.  This field is not updateable and will be set automatically when discrepancies are detected.
  • 'A' indicates modules to be added to the curriculum.
  • 'D' indicates modules to be removed from the curriculum.

Curriculum Modules into Subject Groups

A number of curriculum modules can be consolidated into one re-usable subject module group.  The calendar year and subject must be queried and on execute query, all qualification / offering type combination which exists on {SACAD-10} - Curriculum Modules,

that reference this subject will be listed.  A new subject module structure can now be created by combining all modules contained in the listed subjects into a single subject module group when the consolidate button is pressed.  If  some of the 

qualification / offering type combination modules need NOT be included for creation of the new subject group then the 'ignore field' can be ticked and these modules will NOT be included.  Once the consolidate button is clicked then all  

qualification / offering type combinations will be ticked as ignore to make sure that a double click do not create the records twice or gives an Oracle error.

Offering Type A2 On execute query of first two fields the 'Offering Type' for the qualification linked to this subject on {SACADP-10} will be listed.
Modules A2500 On execute query of first two fields the 'Modules' linked to the qualification / offering type combination of the subject will be listed.  These are the modules which will be consolidated into a generic Subject Group on Block 1.
Consolidate Button This button will insert all modules from {SACADP-10} where the ignore tick was not ticked into the generic group of the subject on Block 1 of this option.
