Update of Notches {FPRY-28}

This part of the Payroll System will assist with the implementation of new Salary Notches {FPRI-1}. Salary Notches is used in a number of different Calculation Methods {FPRG-25} in order to calculate salaries.

1. Define a relevant new set of Salary Scales
• This step is technically not a re (temporarilyquirement, if the "On Line Notch Validation" in the Validation Control {FPRM-8} is set to (N)o - but it is recommended.
• Note that the (A)utomatic Increases - record in the Run Cycle Control File {FPRM-3} also controls the Cycle for Scale Sets {FPRM-4} used by the programs below: it may need to be changed (temporarily) to the start of the new cycle (if the new scale cycle is in the future).

• Individual Salary Scales {FPRI-3}

2. It is advisable to make sure that all employees have valid notches and barrier notches on their old scales: run the validation report in the Fixed Salary Detail {FPRI-1} or Validate Notches {FPRIV-21} and correcting all errors.
   
3. The validation report of the Fixed Salary Detail {FPRIV-1} will also report errors with Service Records {PBOP-2} these should also be corrected before proceeding.
   
4. Execute the program Create Old Notch File {FPRU-1}.
• This program will generate a unique list of (old) Salary Notches per Appointment Type {FPRG-10}. For each old Salary Notch, a corresponding new Salary Notch value may then be entered in the next step.
  
5. Create New Notches {FPRU-2}.
• This program allows the user to enter a corresponding new Salary Notch value for each (old) Salary Notch / Appointment Type combination.
  
6. Update Employee with New Notch {FPRU-3}
• This program will insert the new Salary Notch Values of personnel members into the Salary Notch Table {FPRI-1}.
  
7. The update may be rolled back with Rollback of Update {FPRU-4}, if required, in which case the old notches will remain and be effective again.
