Enter Mark Type Marks {SSTUD1-7}

This option allows the entering of Mark Type marks. These marks will subsequently appear on class lists, and are used to calculate Full Period marks.

This option is used to enter student Mark Type marks in either alphabetical or numerical order.

The entering of Mark Type marks is governed by System Cycle “M” as defined in option {SSTUDY-1}.

Using function “SREC” under option {SMNT-5} can control access to this option. This makes it possible to limit access to the updating of marks in respect of one person to one Faculty or Department, and Campus only. Campus restriction is non-mandatory.

This option will operate on the validation ‘PM’ “Process Canc Student Marks” on {SMNT-1}. If the subject was cancelled and the validation is ‘N’, no marks may be entered. If the subject was cancelled and the validation is ‘Y’ the marks may be entered.

The SOD 'GM' on {SMNT-12} controls how student records will be generated.

Note: If a mark for a particular Mark Type is not entered, the student is not penalised. If the user enters a ‘0’ (zero), the student will be penalised,  as zero is a valid mark that a student can obtain.

Students Included in Class Lists and Mark Type mark Input:

The criteria can be specified to allow the entering of multiple Mark Type marks in respect of each student. If the entering of marks on the assessment level is used, the Mark Type marks and results can be calculated using {SSTUD4-11} and {SSTUD4-13}. All these marks can be used by the system when Half and Full Period Marks are computed.
Changes to student marks are written to a log file that can be printed using {SMNTL-6}. The User Code and the program name are also written to the log file.

This option consists of two Blocks of information.

Fields in the option:

PanelBox 1:  Enter Test Marks:  Criteria

In PanelBox 1 the user must specify for which Calendar Year, Subject, Offering Type, Block, Group Type, Group Value and Mark Type s/he wishes to enter marks.

This option is seen as a data capturing option and not a general query screen. Therefore it is mandatory to enter a valid value in each of the fields.

The LOVs of the fields build progressively on each of the preceding fields e.g. the LOV on the subject will only show subjects for the year value entered in the previous field.

Note: The user cannot create new records in this option. Normally records for registered students are created using {SSTUD1-8} 'Gen Student Mark Type/Assessment records'. Students can, however, register after the first batch creation of the Mark Type. Therefore this program will determine if students were added to the total enrolments for this subject. It will then call the generate program to add students not yet in the Mark Type record table.

The fields to be entered are:

Field Type
&
Length
Description
Calendar Year YYYY  The Year of Registration for the applicable subject. The LOV displays only years where the system cycle ‘M’ is open.
Subject Code A7 The relevant Subject Code.

Block Code A2 The Academic Block for which the updating will be done. The LOV will only display Block Codes where cycle ‘M’ is open.

Group A2 The Group value with regard to the Group Type for which marks will be entered. The Group field name will display according to the choice of Group Type, eg. 'Class Group'.
The LOV will only show Group Values for Group Types linked to Offering Types for which the system cycle ‘M’ is open.
Mark Type A2 The Mark Type in respect of which marks are to be entered. Only Mark Types can be used where the 'Mark Type Use' in {SCODE-10} is set as a 'Y' or a 'P'. Please read the indicated manual for an explanation of the 'Y' and 'P' values.

PanelBox 2:  Enter Test Marks:  Mark Type Marks

In this PanelBox the user can only enter the mark and the Result Code.

If the Evaluation Type of the Mark Type is defined as ‘C = Competent' or 'P = Professional Judgement', only the Result Code can be entered.

If the Evaluation Type of the Mark Type is defined as 'O = Objective' evaluation, the user can enter a mark and the program will look up the appropriate Result Code as defined in {SSTUD3-7b2}. The user can enter a different Result Code if needed.

Field Type
&
Length
Description
Student Number N9 The Student Number.
ID Number A15 The student's ID Number is displayed.
Exemption A1 Indicate if the student is Exempted for the mark type, Y/N. The program will allow the entering of result codes without marks, even if it is an Objective Evaluation based Mark Type. The value of the field will default to 'N'o.
Mark A1 Enter the student’s Mark in this field.
If Mark Type is marked as ‘Type of Evaluation = C’, this field will be disabled and the user will not be able to enter a mark in this field. Error message 'Mark Type is marked as Competence - No Mark Required'.

Calc Mark N3 The Mark Type mark that was calculated using {SSTUD4-11} will display here. It cannot be updated and can be used as an indicator that the mark was changed manually after the computation was done.
Result A2 For Type of Evaluation = 'O', the program will look up the appropriate result for the mark entered. This is defined in {SSTUD3-7}. If no result is defined for the mark, the program will issue an error: ‘No corresponding result for this mark’. The result can be changed to another valid Result Code as defined in {SCODE-23}.

For Type of Evaluation = 'C' only the results defined in {SSTUD3-1} for ‘Competent’ or ‘Not Yet Competent’ can be entered. The LOV on the result will also be limited to these two Result Codes.

For Type of Evaluation = 'P', only results that are liked to the Rubric as defined in {SSTUD3-7}, TAB - Assessment Marks Result Criteria can be used.

If the Mark Type was exempted erroneously, the mark and result will be cleared if the exemption is changed to N. The user doesn’t have to enter a mark and result; only the mark or result may be entered.

If a result is indicated as Re-Calc = ‘N’ on {SCODE-23}, the lookup functionality will not override the result entered manually.
